It's really easy to cast movies to your Chromecast with VLC because all you have to do is open the video and then click a few buttons.
How to Use VLC With Your Chromecast
- Download and install the newest version of VLC. Version 3 and newer support Chromecast functionality.
- In VLC, navigate to the Playback > Renderer menu and choose your Chromecast from the list, like in the screenshot above.
- Open the video you want to send to your Chromecast. You can do this through the Media > Open File... menu in VLC, or by double-clicking the video file if you have VLC set up as your default media player.
If you want to return playback to your computer, go back to the Playback > Renderer menu and choose <Local>. To completely stop playing the video, both on your computer and the Chromecast, just use the stop button like you would to quit playback on your computer.
